Using Foam To Reduce Noise From A Room

Using Foam To Reduce Noise From A Room

Do you sound coming from another room or outside of your home, condo, or apartment?  Are you worried that noise inside of your place is going to disturb others outside?  If so, here are some cost-effective tips on using foam to solve this problem.

Windows are the number one cause of sound escaping from outside of your room. They also allow outside traffic and other sounds to come indoors.

You will first cover the window(s) with foam. There are 2 types of noise blocking foam you can use.

Charcoal Firm foam is a dense open-cell foam that can be squeezed into the window and will hold in place with no gluing required. For additional elimination of sounds, you can add Volara on top of the charcoal firm foam as an added barrier.

Volara foam is used for walls, ceilings, and doors.  It is also known as crosslink polyethylene, comes on a roll 60” wide and is available 1/8” - 1/2” thick.  Volara foam will definitely deaden the noise coming in through the walls or windows.   In addition, it is flexible and easy to work with.

This foam will also block noises coming from outside such as traffic and party chaos. Combining both the charcoal firm foam and Volara foam will pretty much guarantee the elimination of all noise.

Volara foam is also an affordable option to block the noise coming from a water pump heater and/or furnace.  This deadens the annoying noise from these units and will allow you to get a good night’s sleep.

Both the charcoal firm foam and Volara foam have an optional adhesive backing which makes application simple and easy.  These noise-reducing foams are great for study areas, libraries, home offices, bedrooms, doctor’s offices, and home recording studios.
